This breed is not recommended for families with small children, but if the owner is experienced with this breed, the Rottweiler will make a reliable pet. Tolerance to children depends on the socialization given to the puppy in the early age. If raised together with children or smaller pets, a puppy becomes absolutely reliable and tolerant. If an adult pet is introduced to a child, both the pet and the child should be taught on what is acceptable behavior and what is not. Babies and toddlers should not be left with a Rottweiler unsupervised; it’s better to wait until the child is at least school age before introducing a Rottweiler into the home.
